Hockey south www.weddingcms.com Cheap Bridesmaid Dresses Australia australia Life has an interesting way of proving to you that some things don't go to plan.Just because you want something so badly, doesn't mean you deserve to get it.Its 10.00am Sunday the 17th of June. The day the greeks went to the polls and the moment when the group of 27 hockeyroos were told whether they would be a part of the 16 girls who would realise a life long dream of representing australia at the london olympics. It is also the day, i had been waiting for since watching juliet haslam and alison peek win gold at the atlanta olympics.I was sitting in my living room with my dad, who has been one of my biggest supporters when Mother of the Bride Dresses the email came.Pretty devastating news.I was not listed in the team.I had previously not been selected in the london cup team to participate in the olympic preparation tournament, so my chances of selection were not strong. But you always have a deep down hope that they may still pick you. However, this was not the case. After the announcement, we were not allowed to tell anyone(I swore my mum and dad to secrecy)Until the australian olympic committee announced the side on tuesday. After rereading the email twenty times over, i didn't breakdown, didn't throw anything, i was more numb than anything.Like it really hadn't been selected, like there was still a chance. My dad just apologized and said he was still proud of me.Mum gave me a hug and we decided to go shopping.I may have splurged a fair bit of my savings on new clothes, and i can confirm retail therapy does work!I mainly play in the libero line(Centre half and sweeper)And in this line there would be 3 girls selected. The line had some amazingly skilled and tenacious players in madonna blyth, kobie mcgurk, teneal attard and sa's bianca greenshields. It was always going to be a struggle to break into that line and if i was being honest, in the last few days, i have questioned, why did i ever think i was good enough to go to the olympics.I am not the freak who can run for days, i can't powerfully move off the mark, i struggle to even catch a ball.I am just a small south australian who loved the game and trained anytime i could. But then there are times when i kick myself for not believing in myself. On tuesday night, i was talking to ian wishart, the man known by many as the one of the most talented fullbacks of his time, and was exceedingly unlucky not to play for the green and gold.He reminded me that wearing the aussie uniform, is a privilege and an honor. So just being a part of the olympic squad is more than most people are able to do.Perspective is a good thing!People have asked me what i will do now, but we do not stop.Unlike other sports, we continue to train just in case an unfortunate injury occurs(They can bring anyone in to replace an injury anytime before the first game).I am honestly not sure how i will get back into training, push myself through the next 5 weeks of the toughest training block yet.But i think getting back onto the horse is much better than waking up with no idea what i would do next.I think having a very supportive squad, both girls who were and weren't selected, will make life a lot easier.I am not alone in this situation, so all we can do is train on and make the training environment as competitive as possible. "It's not whether you get knocked down; It's whether you get up. "Well, its been a crazy few weeks on the training track with the group. So, i thought i'd give you a quick run down on some of the more enjoyable aspects of life.On the top of my list was being apart of a commercial shoot for one of the olympics main sponsors(I'll keep who it is a surprise). They filmed completing a short corner with jodie flicking and some of the girls defending. We were told that once jodes' scores, we had get around her and have a big group celebration/hug/scream.Now i'm not sure if you had ever faked a goal celebration but it's harder than it looks! After a few takes(And yes, we did have a guy yelling action! ), we had our screams down pat, a couple of us copped an elbow or stick to the head and we wondered back to start our next training session heads filled with our impending stardom(We wish! )This year we have a little bit of down time where we try and take our mind off hockey. Some of the girls have started writing food blogs, some bake and a few of us learnt how to play the guitar with the master danny achurch. Our group consisted of rach lynch(Clearly our lead guitarist), Jackie McRea, Marnie Hudson, Casey Eastham and myself. We learnt how to smash out 'wild thing', 'chasing cars' by snow patrol and 'satisfaction' by the rolling stones whilst munching on snacks. However, our practice schedule was not as rigorous as it probably should have been and we refused straightout to perform in front of the rest of the group.I all honesty, our favorite times were just listening to danny just strum away, the guy could play.It was such a great(And sometimes frustrating)Distraction and it's something i can't wait to continue with.In may, hockey australia organised an olympic recognition dinner to thank all the players, coaches and officials of both the hockeyroos and kookaburras. It was a formal sit down dinner at the novotel and gave all involved a chance to bring their family or partners along to share in the celebration. Each player was given a gift of appreciation, which was a marvelous photo frame. It was a great night to let our hair down, dress up and celebrate what has been a grueling but rewarding olympic prep.Hockeywise, we have had the opportunity to play against the wa under 18 boys team.Commo is a strong believer in using boys to increase the speed and physicality of game or trainings. However, i think the girls handed out more physicality than the boys did. When the girls were away at london cup, the 10 or so girls who stayed home held a state of origin games day.The group was split sa/nt and the other(The east coast). Our team consisted of brooke peris, lizzy duguid(Goal keeping extraordinaire), Bianca Greenshields and myself. The trash talk on twitter started early and continued all day.The games were:Tennis(Small courts using hockey balls and sticks), goals scored in a forehand, back hand goal shooting drill, about 10 x 3 minutes 4v4, overheads into baskets and lastly penalty shoot out.We started strongly in tennis, but lost our lead over the day till the last few 4v4's.As such, it went down to the wire. The teams went into the penalty shoot outs drawn and the tension was palpable. However, we slotted some nice goals and lizzy showed her fancy footwork and central coast(As we labeled ourselves)Came out on top!In smaller news, a group of us went to see david strassman and tedebear(Yes jack and i did buy miniature tede's.I know, we are suckers! ).Strassman is ridiculous, that man is so talented. He actually had tedebear talking whilst he drank milk. That's just nuts! The girls have also discovered our squad restaurant mom's dumplings in vic park.Generally it's full with girls every thursday, ordering about 7 or 8 different types of dumplings and finishing them in record time.Well that's about it, dday is looming, with the aoc announcing selection of the 16woman olympic team on the 19th of june. What a daunting thought! On sunday 7th of may, the family, friends and the general wa hockey community suffered a huge loss with the sudden death of lizzie watkins.Vic park was playing lizzie's team north coast raiders when the accident occurred at perth hockey stadium and lizzie was struck by ball.It was a loss that shocked the general hockey community as no one would believe playing something that you love could end with such sadness.I did not personally know lizzie, but a few friends did and they spoke nothing but goodness of a girl who always made other smile and loved the game of hockey. As a squad, we gathered for training on the monday morning but it was clear to see the tragedy weighed on everyone's hearts, especially the four girls who played for raiders and the few girls who where playing for vic park. The coaching staff recognized this and as such training was optional and only included some running and a skills session.A group meeting took place and our team's psychologist helped anyone who needed to chat.Training for the week was modified to allow anyone to grieve in their own way whilst still allowing people to focus on training as hard they possibly could. It was amazing to see, not just the girls support each other through this hard time, but also the hockey community as a whole. On the friday night, the family had asked the hockey community to celebrate lizzie's life at a tribute match against curtin pirates.Thousands of people attended and rather than giving a minutes silence, the crowd gave a thunderous standing ovation to honor lizzie. Her father gave a breathtaking speech about his daughter and then revealed that lizze was an organ donor and that she had given five people a new outlook on life.Lizzie was only the 12th organ donor in wa this year and there are over 1600 people on the organ donor waiting list. Therefore, main message mr.I have let my family know organ donation wishes, please do the same.We have just arrived back into perth after a quick break to recover mentally and physically before the hardest part of the olympic preparation starts. As part of the lead up, we have all been asked to play club hockey in wa.However, because it would mean a rather large influx of strong players into the league, hockey wa organize a draft and all clubs pick up a few players each.Luckily enough i was picked up as first draft pick by uni of wa(Otherwise known as uwa, or club udub). They are the reigning premiers and have fi boyce, jodie schultz and tony cronk and olympians shelley liddelow and kate hollywood, so not a bad place to land yourself.Half time team discussion at our home pitch at challenge stadiumnow, i have played at the same club for 12 years and the zulu girls are not only my teammates but they are my best friends, so playing for another club seems foreign. But from the first training and game, the girls were so inviting and it easy to see that they really are great club. One of the best things about udub is being"Reunited"With jess shakes.Shaker played for Mother of the Bride Dresses this page sa all the way through juniors and seniors before heading west.Udub also love their cakes!Last week we had turtle(Yes, that's one of my nicknames)Shaped cakes brilliant.Team captain and head baker tania perpoli and myself with the turtle cakesthe only drawback is the uncompromising their ban on ribbon wearing in first grade(And yes, i love ribbons).I was warned quite strongly and informed if there were breach of the ban, the group would tackle the player to the ground and rip out the offending ribbon. So far we have played two games, winning the first 70 against north coast raiders and the second 32 the reds.I'm certainly looking forward to getting to know the girls even better and playing some good club hockey! Not much else to report as yet but ill keep you updated as we get closer to the best show on earth!Wrap up of the usa series april 2012yesterday we just wrapped up a hockeyroos series against the united states of america in sunshine coast. Results wise, we were extremely disappointed, loosing the series 21.But i'll get into the matches later.Life on tour. Its what you train for, its what you dream about.Wearing the green and gold, day in and day out whilst playing the game you love. It's the best part of hockey.I was lucky enough to be given the privilege to squeeze into a bodysuit and play all three matches. To give you an idea of what life is like i'll give you a run down of a typical training and game day.We arrived on tuesday night so wednesday was our first and only full training day.We began the day at 7.30 with breakfast in the manager's room because it was too late for us to shop ourselves the night before. Then we made our way to the university of sunshine coast's gym for weights. These sessions are aimed at maintenance rather than gains so we may do three or four sets rather than four or five. The channel 7 and 9 tv crews came out to film us, which was one of the more surreal experiences, and it was terribly hard to keep a straight face whilst trying to lift weights. We then food shopped and headed back to the hotel, for lunch and some time off before our first hit out on the turf in budrum. Our room, which was made up of jill dwyer and marnie hudson spent most of our rest time watching gossip girl, down at the beach or the pool, sleeping, eating and or downstairs in the coffee shop.I was also allowed to bring my guitar, so my time was also spent strumming away on the balcony.Clearly our neighbours wanted a change in song because one afternoon, one of them yelled out that we should play metallica. We didn't meet his request. We spent about 2 hours training, focusing on getting used to the pitch, working on ball movement, leading and receiving. We then played mini games and finished off with short corners. After recovery, we were home for dinner and spent some time watching previous usa footage and off to bed before the first game! Our results weren't as we hoped for losing the first two games 10 and 21.However we got our groove on in the last game, winning 30 and for the first time really dominating the game.Playing the american's, had a different feeling to other nations. They were fast and powerful and had recently beaten argentina in the pan american olympic qualifiers, but didn't have the slick skills of the koreans or argies. They would hit the ball straight through you and it took us a while to stand up for ourselves and run through them, trap the hard balls and counter against them the way they had done to us.A very big lesson for our inexperienced lineup!Adam commens kept reminding us, in the olympics, you generally only have once chance against a team.Lose the game and you could have lost any chance of a medal! It shouldn't take two games to get into the groove. The lesson every second in the game counts!
